As I traveled through El Paso and western Texas, I listened to the Old 97s’ West Texas Teardrops, as well as the rest of that album. The song is about a man who believes he might have been happy in El Paso. After seeing El Paso, I think he might be better off lost in west Texas. West Texas looks like this:

West Texas is not that big when it comes down to it. After leaving El Paso I came across the brown desert, and then suddenly it was green. In fact, as you go further east on the interstate towards San Antonio, it gets greener and greener, and the small plants gradually get taller and taller, until finally they are bushes and trees. It’s also humid as can be again, and you know you’re no longer in the desert.




That green area is really pretty.
It came out of nowhere. It was desert, and then suddenly green.
